trying to comment on "Plastic Trap" in Openmind/PlasticPollutionCoalition

As a strange technical difficulty in their webdesign form (?) prevents me from directly commenting on a really qualified essay by Erica Cirino, originally appearing in OpenMind,  i publish my comment (that i planned to post there) on

Summary of Mrs.Cirino's essay: "The plastic industry's lie that the public is responsible for plastic pollution leaves them free to make more plastic and leaves the rest of us stuck. Plastic is much more than a nuisance and a visual blight. The plastic industry has convinced us that recycling will reverse the toxic impact of plastic—while it keeps right on polluting. Here’s what you can do to fight back."

My Comment:

It is similar with biotechnology. Researchers are currently rushing into hydrolases  and biodegradation by enzymes, bacteria, mushrooms, algae and insects: https://sensiblochamaeleon.blogspot.com/2022/06/pilze-bakterien-enzyme-mikroben-und.html - This can perhaps optimize the circular economy, but not eliminate the huge mass of plastic waste. The solution would be much more direct and simple: degrowth, production stop for unnecessary and harmful products.  The old, profit-oriented economic system must be transformed into a post-growth economy as soon as possible. Rebound effects and greenwashing are the big mistakes of the "green new deal". The current market situation makes it difficult for consumers to live zerowaste: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666784321000164 - In addition, a radical change in traffic is due to prevent car tire abrasion. Stricter control of compliance with environmental laws is needed. Hopefully ecocide will soon be defined as an international crime.
